Sulby man admits £25,000 benefit fraud

Forty-four-year-old failed to declare overseas property

A man from Sulby will be sentenced in May after fraudulently claiming £25,000 in unemployment benefits.

Forty-four-year-old Darren Shafik-Mikail of Carrick Park was excused appearing in person when his case was called by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He’d previously pleaded guilty to five charges of benefits fraud after failing to declare £570,000 worth of properties he owned in America and Ireland.

He was bailed, and will next appear in court on 11 May.
