Supermarket Safe Space to provide 'safe haven' from abuse

Shoprite and Tesco link up with police

Supermarkets on the Isle of Man have joined forces with police to try and help victims of domestic abuse.

The Supermarket Safe Space scheme has now been rolled out to all Shoprite stores – offering people in need a 'safe haven' away from their abuser.

Information about support services can be provided and the police can also be discreetly called.

Posters will be on display in all stores and people in need of help can speak to any staff member.

Detective Constable Leanne Cullivan is the domestic abuse coordinator:

Police say if they can capture 'just one person' through this scheme, that they wouldn't necessarily have had the opportunity to speak to, then it will be a success.
