Sure flags mobile phone antenna plan

Provider insists Governor's Hill plans 'safe'

Island telecoms firm Sure has outlined plans for a new antenna in the Governor's Hill area of Douglas, to improve its mobile coverage offering.

The company has written to residents, explaining it wants to attach a 'low-visual impact antenna' to a lamppost in the estate.

Sure says the installation would be safe, discreet and improve mobile signal and internet coverage for local customers.

The overtures to residents come ahead of a formal planning application to install the equipment on Hailwood Avenue.

Its letter assures residents the antenna complies with international  radiation protection guidelines adopted by UK mobile phone operators and endorsed by the World Health Organisation.

There are likely to be concerns however, at the antenna being sited close to homes on the family estate.

Sure says it would improve coverage without a major visual impact.

The firm's inviting residents to give their views to senior staff at drop-in sessions in the Cat with No Tail pub on the 4 and 6 August.
