Suspected fire damage to skate park refuted by commissioners

Damage to concrete bowl at Poulsom Park raises eyebrows

A skater in Castletown who uses the skate park at Poulsom Park believes a fire has damaged a 'crucial spot' of the concrete surface over the weekend.

Adam Maguire was part of the team who helped construct the site.

The skate park cost £165,000 and was built by Castletown Parks Charity which raised £90,000 with £50,000 coming from Castletown Commissioners and another £50,000 from the Manx Lottery Trust.

In a statement, Castletown Town Commissioners said: "It has been alleged that there has been recently vandalism resulting in damage to the Skate Park. 

"The commissioners have had the matter investigated and can confirm that the damage is in fact erosion/deterioration of the concrete surface. There is no evidence that any recent vandalism has taken place on the Skate Park. 

"It is important that unfounded accusations against people, including young people, are not made. The Commissioners hope this clarifies the matter for the public."
