Swine flu guidelines explained

New scientific information about the way the swine flu virus is spreading led to new guidelines on the recommended length of time those infected should stay away from school or work.

The exclusion period starts from when the last symptoms have gone.

It's been reduced from seven days for children and nine days for adults, to just 24 hours.

The Island's Director of Public Health Dr Parameswaran Kishore says it now seems sensible to recommend people stay at home only when they're most likely to pass the virus to other people.
