Teachers learn from anti-bullying expert

Head teachers and senior staff at schools in the Isle of Man have been finding out about different ways to tackle bullying today.

Coordinator of the Anti-Bullying Alliance in the North West of England Alison O'Brien is leading two half-day workshops.

Last month, the Department of Education announced a major anti-bullying initiative on the Island.

Research carried out during the compilation of the Manx Government’s first ever Children's Plan, published in May, found despite there being good overall levels of care in Island schools, bullying or fear of bullying was still an issue among some pupils.

As a result, the department has asked all schools to review and, if necessary, amend and re-launch their existing anti-bullying policies to make it clear bullying is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
