Teenager jailed for alcohol fuelled offences

A 17 year-old from Douglas has been jailed for a total of four months by High Bailiff Michael Moyle, for theft and other offences.

Daniel William Kelly, of Princes Street appeared for sentence after admitting stealing wine from Shoprite and threatening a member of staff who stopped him.

He also spat at a police officer who arrested him and damaged a police cell.

In addition, Kelly admitted a new offence, committed on May 3 at the Bellfield Hotel in Church Road, Douglas, where he damaged the wall of the room he was in.

His advocate said the common denominator in all the offences was alcohol, as Kelly was drunk when all of them were committed.

As well as the prison sentence, Mr Moyle made a twelve month anti-social behaviour order.

During the period Kelly must not purchase alcohol, consume it in a public place or be found intoxicated in public.
