Terry Waite visits homeless shelter

Staff at the Kemmryk shelter in Kingswood Grove, Douglas had a visit from a well known fund raiser for the homeless today (Friday).

Former special envoy for the Archbishop of Canterbury Terry Waite dropped in to see the facilities and talk to the people who run them.

Mr Waite, who first worked with the homeless 50 years ago, is the guest of honour at this evening's annual Trafalgar Ball at the Hilton Hotel, which raises money for the King George's Fund for Sailors.

He says he was impressed by the people running the Kemmyrk shelter (play audio file):

In 1987 Terry Waite was sent to Lebanon to try and secure the release of hostages and was himself held captive until 1991.
