Tesco refused license in Castletown

Superstore chain Tesco has had its application for a licence in Castletown turned down.

The store caused a row between Callow’s Yard developer Roy Tilleard and the town’s board of commissioners when it applied for an alcohol licence for a proposed store for the second time.

The board had objected to the move, while Mr Tilleard said a refusal might mean plans for a Tesco would be shelved.

Chair of the Licensing court Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said there were already too many alcohol licences in Castletown.
