Political commentator reflects on ministerial reshuffle
A political commentator on the Isle of Man says the past 48 hours have exposed what he describes as “a weakness in our political system”.
On Monday, Chief Minister Alfred Cannan reshuffled his Cabinet, removing Alex Allinson and Michelle Haywood from their roles as treasury and infrastructure ministers.
Mr Cannan said the move was intended to “redefine the government’s approach to priorities” for the remainder of the administration, as part of changes within the Council of Ministers.
"Public confidence has been drifting; sentiment among businesses has hardened; and – frankly - continuing without adjustment would be the wrong course. We need to steady the ship, listen more carefully and proceed with greater consensus and understanding." - Chief Minister Alfred Cannan

However, Alistair Ramsay - a former government press officer - believes both Dr Allinson and Dr Haywood are progressive, uncompromising politicians who have paid the price for challenging powerful interest groups.
He says the chief minister now faces the task of demonstrating that government is listening - and of rebuilding public confidence:
