Third time lucky as new home is found

A vintage Manx horse tram has been saved from the scrap heap at the eleventh hour.

Douglas tram 49 is the last surviving car of its type, and had been temporarily housed at the Manx Transport site in Jurby.

But the space was needed, and the Isle of Man Rail and Tramway Preservation Society was told if the car wasn't moved, it would be broken up.

Two Manx residents offered space in outbuildings, but in one case the roof was too low and in the other access was too tight.

Then, Baldrine tram enthusiast and restorer Steven Goody offered a shed which fitted the bill.

Society chairman Robert Hendry says it was a close run thing, but the tram has been saved:
