Three Manx residents in New Years Honours List

Two MBE's and a British Empire Medal to be awarded

Three Manx residents have been recognised in Her Majesty The Queen's New Years Honours List for 2022.

Colin Leather is due to receive an MBE for his long service to the community of Castletown.

He's one of the Island's longest standing chairman and has held the position in the southern town on six occasions.

Meanwhile, Bernadette Williams is also to be awarded with an MBE for long service to the Isle of Man and the Royal British Legion.

She was a member of the RBL's Women's section from 1983 to 1995, and has been a Standard Bearer for the Isle of Man County and North West Region and won the Great Britain Standard Bearer title for five consecutive years.

On retiring from ceremonial duties for the RBL, she was appointed Sword Bearer for Tynwald, a duty she has carried out for the last 25 years.

Also, Alexander Townsend is to be awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to Isle of Man education.

In the 1990's he came up with the innovation of converting a single-decker bus into a mobile classroom to teach primary school children the creative use of computers.

The Computerbus launched in 1998 and was led by Mr Townsend until 2020, and the concept was described by an Apple spokesperson as a 'stroke of brilliance'.
