Trail users reminded of laws

People who take their vehicles out on the Island's off-road tracks and trails are being reminded of the rules and regulations which govern them.

There are two key messages of the Government led campaign; firstly it's an offence to ride on a 'Greenway Road' here without insurance, a driving licence and valid tax.

The second is driving a motor vehicle onto open moorland and damaging heath land or disturbing wildlife is also against the law.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry says Police are going to make sure riders are fully aware of the restrictions before they go off road and will be carrying out spot checks on vehicles using the upland tracks over the next few months.
