Trawler Captain wants answers

A trawler captain who claims his vessel was dragged backwards by submarine whilst fishing off the Calf of Man yesterday (Wed) says he's still shocked and lucky to be alive.

Paul Murphy is adamant the nets of the "Karen" from Ardglass in Northern Ireland were snagged by a submarine and he now wants answers - and assurance the rest of the fishing fleet is safe.

The Ministry of Defence says it won’t comment on the claims.

Mr Murphy says his vessel was towed backwards at speeds of up to ten knots and says he can't think of anything else which could be responsible.

It’s estimated the fishing boat will need over £10,000 of repairs before she can return to sea.

Britain is currently hosting Exercise Joint Warrior - involving about 50 vessels, dozens of aircraft and thousands of troops from the UK, NATO and allies - in Scotland.

Sky News claims there were no British or Russian subs in the area at the time
