Island seeks assistance from Secretary of State to bring in Flood Re scheme
Discussions between the UK and Isle of Man over a flood reinsurance scheme for Manx residents are taking place.
Treasury Minister Alf Cannan confirmed he's contacted the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to see if the UK's Flood Re policy could be extended to Island homes.
The issue was raised by Garff MHK Daphne Caine following last October's floods in Laxey.
The system has been in place in the UK since 2016, ensuring those who live in high-risk flood areas can obtain affordable insurance.
Mr Cannan says both jurisdictions may need to update their laws in order for the scheme to work here:
Airport Director role advertised with top salary of £120,000
Isle of Man economy contracts for second year
Traders on Michael Street feel 'abandoned' by politicians in tough times
Job Centre unable to reliably identify duplicate vacancies
