Government confirms ringfenced healthcare tax won't be progressed
Treasury says it won't be progressing with plans to introduce a new tax for healthcare.
The announcement follows a consultation into the proposed NHS Levy earlier this year, which attracted more than 3,800 responses.
Treasury Minister Alex Allinson says the consultation gave government the opportunity to gauge public appetite for ring-fenced income for the health service.
In a statement, he adds that questions and concerns over the levy were inevitable, and the consultation was useful in clarifying public thinking.
The full consultation response will be published in due course.
