Treasury reveals TV licence rebate costs

£877,000 released to over 75s

TV licence rebates for over 75s on Island cost Treasury £877,000.

That's the response Onchan member, Julie Edge, received from Minister Alfred Cannan - who says 5,997 households claimed between 1st September 2016 and 24th November this year.

Five-hundred-and-ninety-six payments were made under accommodation for residential care, at a cost of £4,470.

In total, people in that group made around 6,600 payments, worth around £881,400, as rebates were also released to eligible pensioners under the age of 75 on income support.

Mr Cannan says there are further costs involved.

Treasury wasn't able to say how many eligible households haven't claimed.
