Trial could go on despite Onchan withdrawal

It looks as if a three-year trial scheme for kerbside collection in the east of the Island will continue after government funding runs out, in September.

A six-month extension, to give time for a proper appraisal of the viability of a permanent local authority funded package, looked to be in jeopardy when Onchan Commissioners changed their minds and decided to withdraw support.

However, Douglas Council leader David Christian is confident the two remaining partners will be able to continue (play audio file):

A decision on theĀ proposed six-month local authority funded extension of the kerbside collection trial scheme is likely to be made next Wednesday by representatives of Douglas Council, Braddan Commissioners and the Department of Infrastructure.

The extension would run from September.
