Trial for man accused of defrauding Island homeowners

30-year-old denies taking £25K in deposits for work he didn't complete

A Jurby man accused of taking more than £25,000 from householders for work which he didn’t complete will stand trial.

Craig Brown, of The Bretney, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he denied 13 offences of committing fraud by false representation.

The 30-year-old allegedly accepted deposits from people, between October 2021 and October 2022, whilst knowing there was a serious risk he wouldn’t be able to start or complete the work.

Committal proceedings, where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery, will take place on 9 January; he’s been bailed until that date.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 9 January Mr Brown was committed to stand trial at the Court of General Gaol Delivery. He will next appear there on a date to be set.
