Troubled time for fishermen

A spokesman from the Manx Fish Producers Organisation says some local fishermen may have to consider whether it's economic for them to continue in the industry.

Tom Bryan-Brown says boats have mainly been working on the west side of the Island recently to try and gain some shelter from the weather - but as the grounds have been fished hard there's little more to be taken.

He says new factors such as licence fees for the fleet have caused some controversy, though he's hopeful that the current consultation on the queenie fishery may be beneficial to the local industry later this year.

But with prices on species such as scallops being static over the last year Mr Bryan-Brown believes some fisherman may have to take a hard look at their own business
