Two people charged with Covid-19-related offences

Police confirm powers are now in place

Police say two people are currently in custody, having been charged with offences related to Covid-19, and will be detained until the next available court.

One person was absent from a residence and also failed to follow medical instructions, officers say, so they were arrested.

Another person had already been warned but was found drinking and socialising on a beach - they were also arrested.

Two other people are reportedly in the cells for Covid-19 offences, waiting to be dealt with, and officers have arrested several people over the past week.

In a post on social media, it was also confirmed that powers already in place do allow for arrest or reporting those found breaking the Covid-19 rules.

The penalties for breaking these laws can be £10,000 or three months in prison.
