Tynwald considers social work practice overhaul

Parents must be kept 'in the loop' on decisions

Changes to the way Island social workers deal with families in child protection cases will be considered by Tynwald this week.

A report authored by the Independent Chair of Safeguarding Children Board, resulted in eight recommendations - to improve relations between the Department of Health and Social Care, and service users.

Paul Burnett has called for improvements in the way cases are managed, and the leadership of social workers on the ground.  

Mr Burnett heard evidence from ten families who'd complained at their treatment by the authorities during his investigation.

He says parents have to be kept informed about decisions in difficult situations, when the child's interests are paramount:
