Church of England values 'unique' role
The Island's bishop says his unique role in Tynwald increases the likelihood that he'll be replaced.
Robert Paterson announced his retirement this week and will step down from November after eight years serving the Island.
There is no certainty the Church of England will retain a senior figurehead for the small diocese of Sodor and Man long-term - the Channel Islands, with almost double the size of population, does not have its own bishop.
But Bishop Robert says the bishop's seat and vote in the Manx national parliament is historic, and will not be given up lightly.
He says Lord Lisvane reflected wide support for the current situation in his report on the functioning of Tynwald:
Rolling delays see Manxman sailings cancelled
Assisted dying bill receiving 'due attention it deserves' in UK
Faulty device believed to have triggered multi-agency search effort
Payroll firm reprimanded after thousands of personal records discovered in abandoned shredding bins
