Statement due on VAT agreement

Minister to speak in Tynwald today

Tynwald sits this morning – with more news from the Island’s Treasury Minister over our VAT-sharing agreement with the UK.

Eddie Teare MHK is due to give a statement about the agreement this morning: it’s six years since the UK government announced massive cuts to the amount of cash the Island gets.

Members will also debate spending £1.1 million refurbishing Douglas railway station, while the public accounts committee will put its report on Peel harbour silt-dredging before the court.

And there will also be a debate, adjourned from last month, about fitness to work assessments carried out by Dependability Ltd.

There are twelve questions for oral answer during this month’s sitting, with another four for written reply.

Of those, Onchan MHK Peter Karran has seven queries covering topics such as the government’s bailout deal for the Sefton Group and laws covering estate agents.

Also on the order paper are proposed rises in fees for harbours, planning applications, and general registry services.

You can hear live coverage of this month’s Tynwald sitting on Manx Radio’s AM1368 frequency, online at manxradio.com and via mobile app from 10.30 this morning.
