Tynwald tackles Post Office corporatisation

Reduced order paper after two motions pulled

The Island's next Judge of Appeal, government's use of social media and the state of Manx roads will all be discussed in Tynwald today.

A question on the corporatisation of the Post Office - which was withdrawn from an earlier House of Keys sitting - will also be put.

In total, there are 16 questions for oral answer and a further 13 for written response.

The first of Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson's two questions in today's sitting is on the new mental health facility at Noble's Hospital.

Health Minister Kate Beecroft will be asked about what category of inpatient the £7.2million facility will accommodate.

Further down the question paper he'll push Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas on how government can utilise non-traditional media (Facebook, Twitter) to communicate with the public.

Elsewhere, Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper is seeking answers on what action the Communications Commission will take on the cost of roaming charges - while Infrastructure chief Ray Harmer will be pressed on his department's schedule for re-painting road markings.

A motion from Douglas East MHK Clare Bettison on legalising cannabis for medicinal purposes has been pulled from today's order paper, pending publication of a new report on the future direction of the Island's drug and alcohol strategy.

Onchan MHK Julie Edge has also removed her motion, calling on Tynwald to back a review of the management structure of government, its statutory boards and offices.
