Fire crews called out after neighbour alerted by alarm

Firefighters were called out to reports of a flat fire in Pulrose this morning.

Crews from Douglas were dispatched following a report from a neighbour who was alerted by the property's smoke alarm.

Upon arrival officers found the locked apartment was smoke logged due to a fire caused by a pan that had been left on the stove.

Nobody was home.

Crews forced entry through the front door wearing breathing apparatus and found the property to be empty.

The Fire and Rescue Service says both the police and ambulance service were stood down and crews removed the pan and ventilated the property before carrying out further safety checks in the flat involved and those adjoining.

Its issued a reminder to never leave cooking unattended and to test your smoke alarm every week.

In this instance thanks to a working smoke alarm crews were able to respond in time to prevent the incident escalating.
