Unemployed should work for benefits, says candidate

A civil servant from Ramsey says he’d like to see a workfare-style scheme on the Island making the unemployed work for their benefits.

John McDonough, 44, will contest September’s General Election in the town where he lives with his wife and young son.

He says during times of economic hardship, it’s important for everybody to give something to their community.

And he says that could include asking those on benefits to give something back.
