February unemployment figure at 15-year low

February statistics revealed

The number of registered unemployed persons on the Island went up by 12 at the end of February - but is still over 200 lower than the same time last year.

It stood at 373, giving an unemployment rate of 0.9% - an increase of 0.1% from the previous month.

It's the lowest registered unemployment figure for the month since February of 2003.

The Retail and Catering sectors had the highest numbers of unemployed persons registered, with medical and health services showing the highest number of vacancies.

The figure as calculated by the International Labour Organisation, which measures those who are registered as unemployed and those who are not registered but may still be looking for work, gives a figure of 818 unemployed at the end of February, compared with 806 in January, an unemployment rate of 1.9%
