'Unparalleled grief' as last Corrin Home residents move out

Facility to shut in July after talks to save it failed

Families of those at the Corrin Memorial Home have described 'unparalleled grief' after the last residents moved out of the facility yesterday (Friday, 25 June).

The home is due to shut officially on 19 July after talks to save it between trustees, directors and the government broke down.

Health officials stated 'all parties' had agreed the facility was 'unsustainable'.

The Save the Corrin Home Group - which had campaigned to save the facility - says over the last few days the scene has been one of 'families, residents and carers in tears' as they bid farewell.

Ken Watterson, from the group, spoke about the effect the move has had on his mother:

Residents of the home are in the process of being relocated and government says this should be finished within the next week, with the 'vast majority' being offered a place at their first choice home.

Health and Social Care Minister, David Ashford, is praising Corrin Home staff who he says 'have put the needs of the residents first to ensure this process runs smoothly'.

Each resident has also received a PCR Covid-19 test before their move.
