Victim statements welcomed

The introduction of victim impact statements in United Kingdom courts is being welcomed with caution by the Island's Victim Support charity.

The families of people unlawfully killed can prepare an account of how the crime has affected their lives, which is read before sentencing.

Branch manager Paula Gelling says families have welcomed the opportunity to have a voice in court, but its benefits are 'up for discussion':
