Police report 'sudden rise' in number of offences
Police say they've seen a 'sudden rise' in the number of people on the Isle of Man being exploited by sextortion scams.
Officers say at least five victims have fallen foul to scammers – particularly via Instagram – but fear the number could be higher.
Sextortion is a type of cyber extortion where criminals threaten to share an individual's intimate sexual information, images or videos unless they are paid off.
Inspector Gavin Callow is urging people not to be afraid to report scams if they are targeted:
