Legislative Council approves new regulations

Vulnerable gas customers on the Isle of Man urgently need safeguards due to the ongoing instability with prices globally.

That's from a member of the Legislative Council, speaking as the upper chamber of Tynwald approved new regulations at this week's sitting.

The Gas (Economic Regulation) Bill 2026 will give the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority a regulatory tool to licence and oversee economic activities within the Island's gas sector.

It also introduces ways to protect vulnerable customers, such as tariff regulation and minimum service standards.

Gary Clueit was among those speaking in support of the bill:

The final stage of the bill was passed unanimously.
