Motiv8 hosting walking event along Heritage Trail to help those in recovery
There's a good chance you or someone you know on the Island has been affected by addiction and dependency - be it through alcohol, drugs, gambling or gaming.
This Sunday (28 September) Manx charity Motiv8 is hosting a symbolic 'Road to Recovery Walk' along the Douglas to Peel Heritage Trail - starting at the NSC at 10am.
The organisation says, whether you're in recovery yourself, supporting a loved one, or simply want to show solidarity, it's a chance to walk alongside others who understand your struggles and triumphs.
Operations Manager Caroline Coole says: ‘The walk symbolises the often challenging journey of recovery, highlighting the importance of support at every stage.
‘No one knows if, or when they, or someone they know or love might need the support that we offer, and we want to make sure we have enough awareness, and in doing so raising the funds to support the hundreds of new clients that make that first contact every year and follow their own Road to Recovery.’
Manx Radio has been speaking to Motiv8's Fundraiser, Nicola Browne, and Peer Mentor Jimmy Thistle:
If you can't do the full walk, then a shorter 3-mile route will start at St John's at midday.
It's a fundraising challenge with all proceeds going towards Motiv8's services here on-Island.
Head of the Family Service, Paula Gelling says: 'Children are all too often impacted by dependency but are often forgotten.
'Motiv8 can have a positive impact by giving them access to a safe space to talk about what they are experiencing at home, providing safety plans, offering joint support with other agencies, where needed and breaking the cycle of dependency going forward.'
It's £10 for an adult ticket and £5 for a child and tomorrow (25 September) is your last day to register if you'd like to take part.
