Walkout at inquiry into DoLGE houses

A planning battle over proposals to build 257 new homes in the south of the Island will now be hear in October, after members of the Ballasalla and District Residents Association walked out of an inquiry last week.

They were protesting after the Department of Local Government and the Environment, which wants to build the houses between Douglas Road and Crossag Road, introduced expert evidence at the last minute.

Residents argued the hearing should be adjourned to give it time to digest the lengthy documents but this was initially refused.

Association spokesman David Allsebrook explains why the organisation felt it had to abandon the process:
