Police are warning Island residents to be extremely wary if they receive a telephone call from a person claiming they haven't paid their phone bill.
It follows an incident yesterday, in which a subscriber was asked for credit card details over the phone to settle an allegedly unpaid account.
The caller said if the details weren't handed over the service would be cut off.
Police say no information should be given out in such circumstances and anybody who receives such a request should ignore it.
Anybody who knows who made the bogus call yesterday is asked to ring 631212 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line, on 0800 555 111.
