Watterson defends 'stepping in' to stop Cosy Nook demolition

Decision at odds with local authorities

It's right that MHKs act on their 'own judgement' in some cases, despite being at odds with the decisions of local authorities.

That's from Rushen member Juan Watterson after the Cosy Nook site in Port Erin has been temporarily saved from demolition.

Commissioners had voted to demolish the early 19th century building last week - it has since been granted a Building Protection Notice (BPN).

Mr Watterson says it's sometimes necessary to step in:

Locals have been giving their opinion on the fate of the Cosy Nook in Port Erin.

Government issued it a Building Preservation Notice earlier this week.

It's after commissioners had voted to demolish the site, which resulted in public outcry.
