Plans to transform disused city centre plot into wellness retreat approved

The man behind plans for a new sauna and wellness retreat in a disused plot of land in Douglas City Centre says he hopes the facility will bring 'something different' to the Isle of Man.

Permission has been granted for the site, known as The Steam Yard, to be built in The Snake Pit adjacent to the Lord Street Bus Interchange.

It's hoped office workers, residents and visitors will take advantage of the ice baths and various facilities.

The idea is the brainchild of a new business partnership between Liam Wiltshire, who runs Kishtey Cheh Beach Sauna in Port Erin, and Tom Rowe.

Following planning approval, the duo said: "We can’t wait to get started, it’s an ambitious project and one we think will bring so much to the city centre and the people of Douglas."
