Western anti-drink drive measures

A raft of measures designed to reduce cases of drink driving in the west of the Island, over the festive period, comes into force today.

Included are free drinks for designated drivers and a 'keysafe' scheme, which enables motorists who drink to hand over their car keys for safe keeping.

Stationary road checks will be carried out, although only those suspected of drink driving will be breathalised.

Last year over 300 people were stopped, and Inspector Simon Lowe (pictured) says the checks will be carried out in the morning, as well as the evening and later on:
