We've 'absolutely' taken action to improve TT safety, says Thompson

Clerk of the course says extra checks and measures in place

The clerk of the TT course feels organisers have 'absolutely' taken action in improving the safety of the racing fortnight.

Gary Thompson says several new measures have been brought in for 2023, including 'spot checks' before sessions and pre-event MOT checks on sidecar outfits.

Five competitors died during last year's two-week races - Mark Purslow, Davy Morgan, Roger Stockton, Bradley Stockton and Cesar Chanal.

Mr Chanal's sidecar teammate, Olivier Lavorel, succumbed to injuries sustained last year several months after in October 2022.

Organisers received criticism from some areas during 2022 around the likes of safety and disruption to the schedule.

When it comes to disruption, Mr Thompson says he's aware not everyone is a fan of the races, and they do what they can to minimise inconvenience:
