WWII medals battle secures political backing

A Ballasalla man has secured political intervention in a campaign to ensure his father receives the World War Two medals he says he was promised.

Eddie Power, a Malew commissioner, wrote to the prime minister on behalf of his 91-year-old father Richard, and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office is now working to try and resolve the case.

War veteran Richard and 30 colleagues were never awarded medals for their work in the Foreign Office's Political Intelligence Department.

After the war, the unit's papers were sent to the War Office and effectively classified.

Eddie believes the secret nature of that work may have hampered efforts for recognition:
