Alf Cannan declares in Michael

The son of a retiring MHK will contest the seat his father is vacating, in the general election in September.

Forty-three-year-old businessman Alf Cannan hopes to follow in the footsteps of David Cannan, who has served the constituency for nearly 29 years.

Educated at King William's College and the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, he was commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Wales and saw active service in Northern Ireland, as well as training with the US Marine Corps and Malaysian Army during a two year posting to Hong Kong.

Businesswise, he worked as an operations manager for Nationwide International and established local recruitment consultancy Paragon.

Alf Cannan is married with three children and returned to the Island in 2009 with his current business, McKenzie Fox, after a two year spell in London.
