Athletics: Leeming and Atherton remaining dominant in NRFTW series

Final event of series takes place this evening (19 August)

Corrin Leeming and Dawn Atherton remain in commanding positions after the penultimate round of the No Rest For The Wicked series yesterday (18 August).

Attention turned to the Anna Maria Cutillo 5 race in Foxdale for race five on Thursday.

In the men's class it was yet another imperious display from Corrin Leeming who made it five wins from five contests, crossing the line first with a time of 26 minutes 55 seconds.

The ever-present Nhlanhla Nzama put in another strong display taking second place in 27 minutes 57 seconds, and Harry Weatherall coming home in third in 28 minutes 24 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the women's half-marathon contest, Becci Pate took her second victory of the series in Foxdale in 32 minutes 58 seconds.

She was followed by Hannah Moore who clocked a time of 33 minutes 29 seconds, with women's half-marathon league leader, Dawn Atherton, posting a time of 33 minutes 51 seconds to finish third on the night.

Going into tonight's final event, Leeming continues to lead the way in the men's half-marathon standings on two hours 36 minutes 42 seconds; Nzama remains second on two hours, 48 muntes 20 seconds with Weatherill third on two hours, 51 minutes 11 seconds.

In the women's half-marathon rankings, Atherton remains in front on three hours 23 minutes 45 seconds; Joanne Schade sits second three hours 33 minutes five seconds and Kathy Garrett is third on three hours 44 minutes 38 seconds.

In the marathon league, Mike Garrett stays top in the men's category on four hours 30 minutes 27 seconds and Jayne Farquhar stays in front in the women's contest on six hours 51 minutes 19 seconds.

Tonight's sixth and final race takes place in Peel from 7pm.
