Athletics: Mullarkey sets new 5,000m PB in USA

It also ranks him number one in UK over distance this year

Isle of Man athlete, David Mullarkey set a new personal best time over 5,000 metres during his latest competitive action out in the USA.

Taking on the Sound Running LA Track Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday, 23 May - the Island competitor went on to finish sixth in the men's race over that distance with a time of 13 minutes, 9.40 seconds.

That performance takes nine seconds off his previous personal benchmark in that particular discipline.

It's also understood this now ranks him as number one in the UK over 5,000 mtres so far in 2026.

More broadly, Mullarkey currently holds five Manx records in men's track and field events in the 1,500 metres; one-mile; 3,000 metres; 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres.

Looking ahead, he's due to represent the Isle of Man at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow which take place from Thursday, 23 July to Sunday, 2 August.
