Athletics: Varley and Taylor victorious in Western 10

Competitive event enjoyed in sunny conditions

Christian Varley and Helen Taylor took the top spots as the Western 10 took place in the West of the Island at the weekend (2 October).

Making only his second appearance at the event, Varley emerged winner of the men's race in a time of 56 minutes 33 seconds.

Just under two minutes behind him was Mark Burnam who took second spot.

Joel Smith took third place around 40 seconds behind Burnam, with Smith adding the top-three finish to his Peel to Douglas win last time out.

Meanwhile, Helen Taylor produced a commanding performance to win the women's contest in a time of 72 minutes 19 seconds.

Her victory comes only a week after she managed a personal best in the Berlin Marathon.

Following Taylor in second in the women's race was Alison King whilst Aimee Dunne made up the top three.
