The anticipated battle between Manxman Mark Cavendish and German sprinter Andre Greipel never materialised on Sunday as the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne one-day classic race was cancelled.
Defending champion Cavendish was in Belgium with his new team, Omega Pharma Quick-Step, but the event was called off at the last minute after heavy snowfall.
Cavendish tweeted afterwards: ‘Disappointing, but minimises risk of injury or sickness.’
