Mark Cavendish finished 11th on today's 244km stage 7 at Giro d'Italia.
The peloton was unable to catch a small breakaway and Cav finished 40 seconds behind the winner.
There was some consolation as the man to cross the line first in wet conditions was Columbia Highroad team-mate Edvald Hagen.
