Big increase in registered voters

The number of 16 and 17-year-olds who have registered to vote in next week's House of Keys general election, is well up on the figure for 2006.

The official total stands 1,297 compared with 724 at the election five years ago, which was the first time Isle of Man residents in the age group were able to vote.

The overall number of people registered is also well up.

The figure stands at 60,3982 compared with 52,000 at the last general election.

Polling day is Thursday, September 29.
