Cav holds onto overall lead in Giro

Mark Cavendish still has the pink jersey after two stages of the Giro D'Italia.

Following his win on Saturday, the Manx rider was beaten by a bike's length by Alessandro Petacchi in a sprint finish at the end of Sunday's second stage.

But he was given the same time as the Italian - three hours, 43 minutes and seven seconds - and held onto the overall lead.

The two riders are known for their sprinting abilities and had been favourites for the largely flat stage.

The third stage on Monday will give the sprinters one more chance to make an impression, with the mountains looming the following day.

Following his win in Saturday's opening stage, Mark Cavendish became the first British rider the wear the pink jersey in the Giro D'Italia.
