Cav scoops award

Isle of Man cyclist Mark Cavendish has been named Sportsman of the Year by the Sports Journalists' Association.

He topped a poll of more than 800 writers beating athlete Mo Farah and golfer Rory Mcllroy.

Swimmer Rebecca Adlington won the sportswoman prize.

World Champion and Tour de France green jersey holder Cavendish is now the odds-on favourite to take the BBC Sports Personality Award at a price of 8/13.

The public will vote for the winner during a live show from MediaCity in Salford on Thursday 22nd December.
