Manx Missile on the comeback after tough two years

Mark Cavendish finished eighth in the opening stage of the Tour de Yorkshire on Thursday.

The Manx Missile spoke of feeling 'human again' ahead of the event, having been hampered by illness and injury over the past couple of years.

Representing Team Dimension Data, the 33-year-old registered a top ten finish after setting off from Doncaster in an extremely wet first stage of the event.

Dutchman Jesper Asselman won the final sprint after being part of a long-range breakaway, holding off competition from Cofidis rider Filippo Fortin.

Cav was one of four Britons in the top ten, alongside Gabriel Cullaigh, Ethan Hayter and Chris Lawless in ninth.

The event will finish in Leeds on Sunday.
